Lots of people here know this already, but for those that don't, Unix tar
(Tape ARchive) format is just a way to collect multiple files into one.
The compression is done by a program called, oddly enough, "compress."
It's not unusual to find a filename with ".tar.Z" at the end, indicating
a file that was assembled by tar and then compressed with compress.
