  22. Lots of people here know this already, but for those that don't, Unix tar
  23. (Tape ARchive) format is just a way to collect multiple files into one.
  24. The compression is done by a program called, oddly enough, "compress."
  25. It's not unusual to find a filename with ".tar.Z" at the end, indicating
  26. a file that was assembled by tar and then compressed with compress.
